ARTIST STATEMENT

My art practice explores personal and collective issues surrounding the pace of urban and technological progress, and its impact on nature and human behavior. The work also considers societal shifts and how they affect our connections with the natural world and those around us.

Ancient Chinese artists painted landscapes in order to project their own thoughts and feelings into the mountains and rivers in nature. The landscape builds a reclusive space for them to run away from secular matters. I use traditional materials, ink on xuan paper, to create an abstract landscape, linking traditional Chinese philosophy to the contemporary context. The neon color and unpredicts movement of the space relate to the unstable reality that we lived in. Full of insecurity and mystery. However, it synchronously triggered us to explore the unknown future.

Immersing in a futuristic natural environment with flashing neon colors, we just free all of our sensations. We feel grounded at this moment, then the next second loses the balance. Losing in a strange space, but we also enjoy the free feeling of weightlessness. The view provides a vision of a glowing forest and had different sensations: astonishment, curiosity, change of direction in movements, and upon me, sometimes warm, sometimes cold. The mixed jumping colors bring us to travel through various sensations in a glowing forest. It is a utopian space to escape reality, go against gravity, and explore the possibilities of the natural environment in a dreamy way.

I wish to bring forth an ethereal ambiance in my works, to convey the ambiguous and alarming vision of nature. The public is confronted with the existence of conflicts between nature and man and is called upon to take a stand in this regard.
